This is now my go to place once I land in Singapore. Great tasty food, reasonably priced. Sitting outside you can feel the hustle and bustle of Singapore as the world goes by.
Old school Singapore Hainanese chicken rice in a coffee shop. Simple and great food. We after chicken rice and had tried Yet Con but it was closed over the Chinese Year week, ended up at Swee Kee since it was open. Your loss Yet Con. They have 2 styles of chicken: Fried or steamed (the more traditional Hainanese style) and have portions for 2 or more to share. We ordered the steamed chicken for 2 along with the chicken rice and stir fried green beans. Chicken was moist with a good chickeny flavor. Make it better by downing it with the chilli and ginger dipping sauces. Stir fried green beans were fresh, crunchy and had a nice garlicky taste with the bits of ground pork for more flavor.
Opposite Raffles Hotel is this simple chicken rice place. It has a very simple old-school setting and while there are a good number of patrons, it's never crowded / I never have to queue. I'm quite a fan of it - the chicken is flavourful and the rice is fragrant and fluffy. I usually order the 2 person set meal which includes kailan in oyster sauce, the chicken (of course) and fried tofu (which is also very nice!), plus a teh-o-peng, it comes up to about $10 per person. I think it's cheaper than Boon Tong Kee, and of the same quality and standard of Boon Tong Kee / that chicken rice store on the 5th floor of Far East Plaza. The standard of the fried tofu is actually better than that of Boon Tong Kee!
